Czulent's Jewish Movie Club from its very beginning in 2007 has been a space for widening the Jewish perspective and inspiring further exploration into Jewish fields. Our broad understanding of Jewish matters results in the presentation of a wide variety of movies. Film subjects have ranged from identity among Polish Jews to the history of the Diaspora and the Middle East Conflict, and most recently to movies concentrating on gender issues within Jewish culture.
The showings take place in "Ptasiek café"- a cosy and friendly place in the Jewish district of Kazimierz and in the Jewish Community Center. There is no entrance fee, so everyone is welcome.
In 2008 we started cooperating with the International Film Festival "Jewish Motifs." Courtesy of the festival in 2009 we showed five films. The film "Madrit before Hanita" was shown courtesy of the director, Eran Torbiner.
The Movie Club itself aims to link people from different backgrounds and open a window onto new realities. We want to present a range of opinions of members of the Jewish community as well as people from outside this group. Since the members of Czulent choose the movies to present, the Club is really unique and close to us.
