The Jewish Literary Salon

The Jewish Literary Salon is an element of cultural life in Krakow's Kazimierz. It has operated successfully since 2006.

The Salon is a place for open discussions of literature and meetings with writers of Jewish origin or authors writing about Jews.

These meetings provide an opportunity to learn about modern literature, to gain a better understanding of important and sometimes difficult subjects and to engage in discussion. Jewish themes have included the history of Jews, life in Israel, politics, religion, art, and the problem of Jewish life and identity today. Typically, at each Salon, the invited author speaks in conversation with Anna Makówka-Kwapisiewicz and presents his or her views on literature, art, and Jewish culture, with active audience participation.

In 2009, we expanded the formula by inviting a photographer, journalist and critic Wojtek Wilczyk in connection with his newly published album of photographs of synagogues in Poland. We want to continue to invite artists of visual arts.
